Peoples of Russia: II Congress of Indigenous Smaller Peoples of North in Krasoyarsk

In Krasnoyarsk takes place the II Congress of Indigenous Smaller Peoples of the North of Krasnoyarsk Territory. It is attended by 32 delegates from the Evenki, Taimyr and Turukhansk area. The guests of the congress have also become representatives of Ministry of Regional Development of Russia, leaders of indigenous peoples of the North from other regions of Russia, representatives of the regional government, deputies of the Legislative Assembly of the Region, representatives of local self-government of the northern territories.

August 11, in the framework of the II Congress of Indigenous Peoples of the North Krasnoyarsk, was held a seminar with participation of tribal communities, there also was a discussion of issues that arise during the implementation of targeted programs for the application of federal and regional legislation, a discussion of the problems hindering the sustainable socio-economic development of indigenous minorities of the North.

President of the Association of Indigenous Peoples of the North of Krasnoyarsk Territory, Victor Gayulsky, reported for 4-year period of work of the Association. He noted that, despite the fact that a lot had been done in the development of economic and social development of indigenous inhabitants of the North, there still are unresolved problems. "Until now, there is no effective mechanism for the involvement of indigenous peoples, and especially young professionals, in the process of development and making a decision by public authorities in regards of socio-economic and cultural development, protection of native habitat, traditional way of life of northerners," - he said.
