Internet resources: Chrome recognized as the fastest browser
Gomez company, a division of Compuware, has published a new study on the measurement of speed of downloading web sites of users of different browsers. In a month, the researchers have analyzed more than 1.8 million downloads of about 200 resources.
At the first place according to the real download speed was Chrome browser from Google. Users of Chrome 12 load their sites faster than others. It is the latest version of the browser that was included into the study (recently was released Chrome 13). The average speed of loading pages by Chrome 12 was 3.433 seconds. For Chrome 11 it took about 3.7 seconds, and Chrome 10 - 4 seconds.
Mozilla Firefox is ranked second by download speed. The average speed of Firefox 5 was about 3.9 seconds. Page loading time when using older versions of the program was somewhat lower.
Apple's Safari and Microsoft's Internet Explorer have shown the worst results. Safari 5 loads pages on average in 4.5 seconds, while for Internet Explorer 9 it takes more than 4.5 seconds. Worst performance of all versions, which participated in the study, demonstrated Safari 4 - more than 6 seconds.
As a second indicator Gomez experts have also examined the rendering speed - the time needed for the visible part of the page to appear on the screen. According to this indicator, Firefox 5 is ahead of Chrome 12 - 2.18 seconds vs. 2.374 seconds, respectively. As the researchers note, they have analyzed it in real terms, based on how browsers operate while used by real users.
