Information and society: National Web Domain Coordination Center Report 2011 (first six months) published

The Director of the Coordination Center for the Internet National Domain A. V. Kolesnikov published the report according to the results of the Coordination Centre’s operation for the period of 1 January to 30 June 2011.

The report contains detailed information on all the key events of the Center of the first half of 2011, the actual statistics of registrations of domain names in .RU and .RF, data on the Center activities to improve the registration system in the Russian national domains, as well as the financial report of the Coordination Center for the first half 2011.

In the first half of 2011 the .RU domain numbered 3,331,219 domain names, which is 1,6% higher than the planned figure. During the six months of the first half of 2011 the .RU domain added 202,559 domain names equal to 6.5%.  The .RF domain numbered 855,751 domain names, which is 19,4% higher than the planned figure. Thus, for the six months of the first half of 2011, .RF domain has grown by 155,324 domain names, or by 22%.

As part of the registration system development, the focus of the Coordination Centre in the first half of 2011 was to improve and bring uniformity to the rules of registration of domain names at .RU and .RF. Upon completion of all phases of development, a new draft of Regulations will be submitted to a wide range of Internet community. 

The report provides detailed information on international activities of the Coordination Centre, in particular, the participation of representatives of the Centre in various activities related to the functioning of the Internet's addressing system and issues of international management and web security.

During the reporting period, the center had been effectively interacting with public authorities at federal and regional levels. The center's employees took part in the development and improvement of mechanisms and the role of government in Internet governance and provided expert support to relevant government authorities.
