Territory of Russia: The world largest model of the Russian Federation to be presented in St. Petersburg

1 August 2011

Modelers from St. Petersburg are working on a detailed territorial model of the Russian Federation, which shows the major cities and facilities of the country. The authors plan to present their project to the public in its final form until the end of the year.

The model will accurately reflect the landscape of Russia from Kaliningrad to Kamchatka. The area of the mock-up will reach 800 square meters. In addition, the model will be operative: trains and cars will move across the "toy" Russia. "Night mode" will set along the model from east to west. All facilities will accommodate hundreds of thousands of light bulbs. The model will be controlled by 40 computers, a control panel will be located inside a mountain six meters high which represents the Ural Mountains.

The model of the country is made of plastic and wood, all items are presented on a scale of 1 to 87.

- We did not plan to make a smaller copy of the Russian Federation - says manager of the Grandmaket exhibition complex Denis Mikheev. – Moreover, it's impossible. We have just tried to recreate an image of the country. There are recognizable objects: Kremlin, Peter and Paul Fortress - they are located approximately at the place where geographically are located Moscow and St. Petersburg. Hundreds of thousands of small figures and animals complement this exhibition.

The huge model features tunnels and bridges, ports and airports, railway stations and underground station, factories, stadiums, military bases. Objects that are located in different climatic zones will be connected by a network of existing roads and railways - two kilometers of track are laid in the model.

According to Mikheev, 100 professionals are working at the model, they are assisted by children, members of a modeling circle.
