Russian Culture Abroad: Russian library opened in Casablanca

On September 23 2011, at “Maarif” (“Knowledge”) municipal entertainment center, located in the largest city of Morocco – Casablanca - was opened Russian library. Its holdings number over 700 books in Russian language, accumulated through efforts of “Compatriots” association and the Russian Center of Science and Culture in Rabat. Among editions are works of fiction, journalistic and historical works.

“Inauguration of Russian library – is rather important event in cultural life of Casablanca and in efforts to promote humanitarian relations between two countries and peoples”, - said Director of the Russian Center of Science and Culture Nikolai Sukhov.

Nikolai Sukhov also highlighted that “foundation of the Russian department at “Maarif” entertainment center has become possible due to enthusiasm of our compatriots and good will of the Russian Center of Science and Culture, which has donated over 500 books to the library fund and intends to go on with that”. Apart from this, he added, “such kinds of campaigns are encouraged by authorities of Casablanca, who take the activities of the Russian compatriots associations as an educational work, which has an important public role”.
