International events: Exhibitions dedicated to Denmark take place in Moscow
The A. S. Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts in Moscow opened "The Danish masters. 1800-1850" exhibition, timed to coincide with an official visit to Moscow of Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II of Denmark and dedicated to Danish art of the first half of 19th century. This period is justly considered the heyday of the national school of painting. The exhibition includes about 50 paintings by Danish artists, from the State Art Museum (Copenhagen) collections, as well as 14 drawings by a great Danish sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen (1770-1844) from Thorvaldsen Museum in Copenhagen.
The "pictorial" section of the exhibition presents the names of the leading masters of the "golden age" of Danish painting: Wilhelm Benz, Christopher Wilhelm Ekersberg, Constantin Hansen, Christian Albrecht Jensen, Christen Kebke, Johan Thomas Lundby and others.
Also, September 7, 2011, the Moscow House of Photography launches the "Arctic" project, which connects the vision of modern Danish and Russian photographers and artists regarding the Arctic region.
The exhibition "Arctic" features photographic works done for the past 20 years. In its focus are not just the people who live and work in the Arctic region, but also the beauty and grandeur of the unique natural landscape.
The objective of the exhibition is to show the beauty of the natural landscape of the Arctic, to draw attention to the problems of the region not only from the part of specialists but also the general public. Today the states of the "Arctic Council", primarily Denmark and Russia, have joined forces in order to develop a new ecological thinking and approach to the study of the Arctic.
