International events: Exhibition of Salvador Dali’s works as a part of the Spain – Russia Year opened in Moscow

5 September 2011

The exhibition "Salvador Dali". From the Collection of "Gala - Salvador Dali" Foundation” opened September 2, 2011 at the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts in Moscow as part of "cross" Year of Spain - Russia.

For the first time in Russia the Pushkin Museum reveals the works by Salvador Dali from the Salvador Dali Museum-Theater in Figueres, among which there are 25 paintings, 90 unique graphic works, along with original objects and archival photos.

The exhibition reflects all periods of the artist’s work: his youth when the artist was busy finding his own creative path, and the time of learning surrealism in Paris, and his formation as the leading master of this school, as well as mature and late experiments of the artist on the verge of traditional painting, optical illusions and science.

The prevailing theme of the exhibition that links the art of Salvador Dali with Russia was a legendary figure of Gala – Dali’s wife Helena Diakonova, which became the heroine of many works of the master, his muse and soul mate.

The retrospective exhibition, prepared by the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts, jointly with Dali Theater and Museum and the Foundation Gala - Salvador Dali, provides the Russian audience with a unique opportunity to see masterpieces from Figueres and feel the unique surreal atmosphere of his museum - the largest works of art created by the artist. This is facilitated by a unique set design of the exhibition, created by well-known Moscow artist Boris Messerer.
