World history: Maya Palace, built 2 000 years ago, discovered in the south of Mexico
Mexican archaeologists have discovered a new palace of Maya Empire in the territory of Chiapas, a southern Mexican state. according to representatives of the National Institute of Anthropology and History of Mexico, the ancient city was created about 2 000 years ago.
Archaeologists named the discovered palace “Plan de Ayutla”. They said that at the archaeological site there was found a burial place which dates to the year 900 – 1000 C.E. It is supposed to make the new historical center available for public next year.
According to Louis Martos, Mexican archaeologist, the palace was founded in the year 50 B.C. He thinks that this open city was a sort of political center under the influence of which other megalopolis of the ancient people were created.
The scholars believe that the new archaeological find will help them learn more about the ancient population of the territory of the modern Mexico. At the Maya palace they discovered three squares which correspond to the belief of the ancient people who “honored the sky, earth and the other world”.
