IT and Libraries: Interregional Theoretical and Practical Conference “Electronic Siberia” launched in Novosibirsk

October 31 - November 3 2011 Novosibirsk State Regional Research Library is running the Interregional Theoretical and Practical Conference “Electronic Siberia”.

The conference is expected to touch upon the following themes:

- The role and place of regional libraries, museums and archives in shaping information resources of the Russian Federation.

- Corporate interaction between libraries, museums and archives within a common information space.

- Electronic information resources: creation, preservation, provision of access.

- Problems of identification, record keeping and deployment of network resources.

- Legal issues related to shaping and deployment of electronic editions.

- Provision of information service to users in digital library environment.

A project called “Electronic Siberia”, funded by the grant of the President of Russia, will be shown off at the conference. The project features “Electronic Siberia” digital library, which has brought together collections of Altai Krai, Novosibirsk, Tomsk, Kemerovo libraries with a possibility of remote access and full-text search across all collections.

The conference has brought together specialists from libraries, museums, archives, research institutes, information companies and subscription agencies, state officials and Mass Media. The conference has also attracted staff members of the Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library.

The program of the conference consists of plenary sessions and sections, roundtable discussions, and video conferences. Collected reports based on materials of the conference are soon to come out.
