History of Russia: “Russia through a train’s window” photo exhibition celebrates 160th anniversary of St. Petersburg – Moscow railway

On October 26 2011 St. Petersburg launched a “Russia through a train’s window” photo exhibition, which marks 160th anniversary of St. Petersburg – Moscow railway.

The exhibition, which is running in the Light Hall of Moscow Railway Station, puts on show works by the Russian photo artist Anton Lange.

The idea of the project consists in portrayal of modern Russia seen through the lens of a traveler. “Russia through a train’s window” – is a series of photo exhibitions, united under one theme which logically continue each other. Their purpose is to show 21st century Russia in different aspects of life, take a new look at its geography, traits of its cultural and historical heritage and life of Russian people.

Judging by the scale of the idea and the size of the covered territory “Russia through a train’s window” project has no counterparts in the Russian history of photography. Photos displayed at the exhibition portray almost the whole territory of Russia – from its southern point to the Polar circle.
