Libraries of Russia: Heads of federal and regional libraries attend the annual meeting

The annual meeting of heads of federal and central regional libraries kicked off under the aegis of the Ministry of Culture of Russia on October 25 2011 in St. Petersburg. The central theme of the meeting has become the role of modern libraries in cultural diversity of the country.

The meeting is running at the National Library of Russia. At plenary and topic-based sessions participants will address challenges Russian libraries meet under conditions of cultural, ethnic, linguistic and confessional diversity. On the agenda are key issues concerning state policy in library science, public services and forms of library service, cooperation and partnership among libraries.

The meeting has attracted heads of the Ministry of Culture of Russia, federal and regional executive and legislative bodies.

A. P. Vershinin, Director General of the Presidential Library, joined the meeting.

The Presidential Library has been actively cooperating both with leading federal libraries and national archives and regional libraries. Within the last two years close cooperation has helped to digitize and release 100 000 storage units of the Presidential Library.
