Internet resources: Three and a half million domain names registered in .RU domain

On Oct. 18 2011 the number of domain names registered in .RU domain totaled three million and a half. Earlier this August .RU domain outstripped the domains of China (.CN) and the European Union (.EU) and rose from the 6th place to the 4th among Top-level domains (ccTLDs).

Besides, less than three weeks ago, on Sept. 30 2011 .РФ domain registered the 900 000th domain name. This happened 11 months after the launch of the open registration (Nov. 11 2011). Thus .РФ domain remains №15 in the list of Top-level domains of Europe.

Both national domains of Russia show a steady growth, which is influenced by a variety of factors: the general growth of Internet users countrywide, the ever-growing influence of Russian Internet on the economy, and the growing interest demonstrated by the Russians toward Internet as a means of communications.
