Memorable dates of Russia: Exhibition of documents from Pushkin House, dedicated to 200th foundation anniversary of Tsarskoe Selo Lyceum, in St. Petersburg

On October 17 2011 Pushkin House (St. Petersburg) is mounting an exhibition which marks 200th foundation anniversary of Tsarskoe Selo Imperial Lyceum and for the first time unveils Lyceum-related documents from Pushkin House holdings and authentic manuscripts of A. S. Pushkin.

The exhibition brings together rolls and paintings of the famous Japanese calligrapher Ryuseki Morimoto based on works of Alexander Pushkin, and materials from the collection of Pushkin House: A. S. Pushkin’s manuscripts, Lyceum’s documents which date to Pushkin’s time, letters of congratulation for 100th foundation anniversary of the Imperial Lyceum.

Exhibits from Pushkin House holdings include: Pushkin’s certificate of graduation from the Lyceum, manuscript of Anton Delvig’s poem “October 19th 1825”, manuscript of the last Lyceum poem by A. S. Pushkin “There was a time our youthful holiday…” and other documents which have never been put on display for general public before.

On show are letters of greetings timed to 100th foundation anniversary of Lyceum. These unique documents of the epoch signed by Emperor Nikolai II, Empress Maria Feodorovna, Grand Prince Konstantin Romanov, prominent scholars and public figures of early 20th century, were not long ago discovered in Pushkin House Manuscript Department.
