
Society and Book Culture: Series of books, timed to 300th birth anniversary of Lomonosov, go on show in St. Petersburg
On October 6th 2011 the National Library of Russia, Main building (St. Petersburg) is mounting a show of a series of books called “We read Lomonosov: publishing projects of Arkhangelsk and Moscow”.
The presentation will showcase books which were published to coincide with 300th birth anniversary of M. V. Lomonosov.
Arkhangelsk Regional Library has prepared for publication a unique document from its collections – a manuscript (1902-1903) of the parish priest of Kholmogory District, Arkhangelsk Region – Arkadiy Grandilevsky “Fatherland of Mikhail Vasilyevich Lomonosov”. This is an encyclopedic set of materials on folk culture of the native land of M. V. Lomonosov, which broadens and specifies the knowledge of our contemporaries on the environment where the genius of Russian science was brought up.
“Lomonosov” publishing house in Moscow has issued three books dedicated to the prominent scholar. “Mikhail Vasilyevich Lomonosov. Correspondence. 1737-1765” is a compendium of M. V. Lomonosov’s correspondence — 161 documents in Russian, Latin, German and French. Some letters have been published for the first time. “Lomonosov through the eyes of contemporaries” contains 109 most impressive accounts of Lomonosov’s contemporaries of his life and work. “The Library of M. V. Lomonosov” has been prepared by the staff of the Russian Academy of Sciences Library and the National Library of Finland and features scientific description of M. V. Lomonosov’s private library, lots of illustrations and history of this library from its first book to our present time.
