
International events: Photo Exhibition within “Days of Helsinki in St. Petersburg”
Within “Days of Helsinki in St. Petersburg” Peter and Paul Fortress is staging a photo exhibition from the collection of Helsinki City Museum. This is a show of photos by Signe Brander, who portrayed Helsinki of 1907 - 1913. The exhibition runs from October 6th through November 2nd 2011.
Signe Brander – is one of the most well-known female photographers of Finland. In 1891 she arrived to Helsinki where she was carried away by photo art and in 1904 she opened her own studio. In 1906 the Commission for Historical Monuments of Helsinki invited Signe Brander to take photos of disappearing and changing views of the city. 906 photographs she made between 1907 and 1913 in collaboration with the Commission for Historical Monuments today make the collection of Helsinki City Museum. Some of them go on display in Peter and Paul Fortress.
