Exhibitions: Exposition dedicated to the centenary of Chernyshev-Gorsky dynasty of artists launched in Moscow

5 October 2011

On October 5 2011 the Russian Academy of Arts in Moscow is staging an exhibition which commemorates the centenary of Chernyshev-Gorsky dynasty of artists. The exposition brings together works of three generations of masters, while the words of Nikolai Chernyshev-Gorsky Sr.: “Look at the flower and see the Universe” have made the title of the exhibition. It showcases works by Nikolai Chernyshev, Andrei Gorsky, Yekaterina Chernysheva, and Nikolai Gorsky-Chernyshev.

The exhibition celebrates two jubilees. Exactly one hundred years ago, in 1911 N. M. Chernyshev graduated from Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, where his teachers were V. A. Serov and K. A. Korovin. This year also sees 85th birth anniversary of People’s Artist of Russia, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Arts - Andrei Petrovich Gorsky.

Works of this artist dynasty can be found at the State Tretyakov Gallery, Russian Museum, at many museums of Russia, as well as at Kiev Museum of Russian Art, and in private collections of Russia and abroad.

On display within the exhibition go around 200 paintings and graphic works from holdings of Moscow History Museum and family’s private collections.
