Russian language abroad: Days of Russian language launched in Armenia

Under the patronage of the President of the Republic of Armenia, Serge Sargsyan, from October 3 to October 9 2011, following the tradition Yerevan is holding Days of Russian language in Armenia.

Like in the past years, the “Days” have been co-organized by the Russian Association of Friendship and Cooperation with Armenia, Armenian Society of Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries with support of the Federal Agency on the CIS, Compatriots Living Abroad and International Humanitarian Cooperation” (Rossotrudnichestvo), “Institute for Eurasian Studies” Foundation and Ministries of Culture, Education and Science of Armenia.

Organizers and participants of events in Armenia include over 4 000 Russian language teachers, pupils from 1400 schools of the Republic, Russian language and literature pedagogues and students from over 30 universities, branches of 7 Russia’s universities, as well as graduates of universities of Russia, intelligentsia and Russian compatriots.

The “Days” will see the opening of a new “Russian Book House” shop, Mandelstam’s Readings, “Russian-language media space in Armenia: the present and the future” roundtable discussion, “Russian hour” open lessons at all 1400 schools, an exhibition of translated literature, “The Youth of Armenia – 20th Anniversary of the Commonwealth” gala concert and meetings with writers, poets and artists.

In three cities Moscow Youth Theatre under the guidance of the Honored Art Worker, People’s Artist of Russia, Vyacheslav Spesivtsev, will perform “The Cherry Orchard” and “Woe from Wit” plays.

The events of the Days of Russian Language in Armenia are running on the threshold of the state visit of the President of the Republic of Armenia Serge Sargsyan to the Russian Federation and are the visiting card of humanitarian component of strategic cooperation between both countries.
