IT and Culture: International Conference “Cultural Heritage and Information Technologies” to kick off in Kizhi

“Cultural Heritage and Information Technologies” International conference, focused on promotion of digital technologies at museums, will run at Kizhi Museum-Reserve in June 2012 under the aegis of UNESCO, said the Director of the Museum-Reserve Elvira Averyanova.

The conference is expected to attract about 200 specialists of major museums, research institutes, universities and libraries from over 40 regions of Russia, as well as scholars from Iceland, Greenland, Denmark, Sweden and Norway.

The program of the forum includes the Museum Computer Festival and the School for Young Museum Workers of Karelia. Lectures on IT employment at museums, archives and libraries will be delivered by specialists of largest museums and research institutes of Moscow and St. Petersburg.

The Chief Research Secretary of the State Tretyakov Gallery Natalya Tolstaya mentioned that Karelia was actively involved in development of digital technologies at museums, and the Republic could be considered as one of the leaders in this field. Thus, the project of “Kizhi” Museum this year has become the winner of “Intermuseum” contest, while the Museum of Fine Arts of Karelia was awarded a prestigious “Changing Museum in a Changing World” prize.
