
International events: “Images of Italy” exhibit from the State Hermitage Museum launched in Kaliningrad as a part of Cultural Exchange Year for Russia and Italy
On November 29th 2011 Kaliningrad Museum of Art “Art Gallery” mounted an exhibition “Images of Italy” from the collection of the State Hermitage Museum. The exhibition is a part of the Year of Russia in Italy and the Year of Italy in Russia which marks a finale of a large-scale project undertaken by the State Hermitage Museum in Kaliningrad Region. The three-year action had attracted several local museums.
The Hermitage collection of Italian paintings and graphic works includes works brought by famous travelers, who for the most part had performed diplomatic mission in foreign countries.
The Art Gallery showcases 40 paintings and 20 graphic works. Their authors are eminent artists including Claude Lorrain, Jan Bloemen, Francesco Zuccarelli, Guiseppe Angeli, Jacob Hackert, Angelo Inganni, Mosè di Giosuè Bianchi and other outstanding masters. On display is also a series of drawings by Jean-Pierre Houël, which show Sicily.
