International events: “Caravaggio (1571-1610). Paintings from the collections of Italy and Vatican” Exhibition in the context of the Russia-Italy Year in Moscow

The State A. S. Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts (Moscow) continues to display masterpieces of the Italian art in the context of the Year of Italy in Russia. Following the works of Rafael, Sandro Botticelli, Lorenzo Bernini and Lorenzo Lotto, beginning November 26, 2011 the Museum features the large-scale project of the Year of Italian culture and language in Russia – the exhibition of works by the great Italian artist Michelangelo da Caravaggio (1571-1610).

Genius, rebel and reformer, Caravaggio influenced a lot the trends of development of the West European art of the early modern period. The exhibition displays “A boy with a basket of fruits” from Borghese Gallery, the legendary “Interment” which has almost never left the interior of the Vatican Palace; “Supper in Emmaus” from Brera Gallery in Milan; the famous “Conversion of Savel” from the Santa Maria del Popolo and other masterpieces. In all the exhibition highlights 11 works of the artist.
