IT and Society: Fifth All-Russian Theoretical and Practical Workshop “Information Products and Services Virtualization” runs in Moscow

On November 24th 2011 the Russian State Library (Moscow) is running the Fifth All-Russian Theoretical and Practical Workshop “Libraries and consultation on consumer’s rights” on the theme “Information Products and Services Virtualization”.

The workshop addresses problems related to promotion of society’s information environment:

- Internet technologies as a tool for implementation of projects and programs promoting cultural development of the country;

- Internet technologies as a tool to overcome “digital divide”, provision of universal equal access to information to citizens from different regions;

- information products and services at libraries, utilizing Internet for designing new information products;

- library amid new Information Technologies;

- promotion of services via Internet, libraries providing information services;

- necessity of legal upbringing of citizens-consumers and opportunities of libraries in this area;

- protection of consumer’s rights on the market of information products and services;

- protection of information rights and freedoms (right to create, share, search, receive, transmit and use information; right to intellectual property; ownership of information resources and documented information, information systems and technologies) in time of informatization;

- protection of information and information resources, first and foremost, limited access, as well as information systems, information technologies, means of communications and telecommunications from the threat of unauthorized and illegal impact of unauthorized persons;

- practice of Public Centers of Legal Data and legislation on consumers’ protection;

- censorship in global and computer networks.

The workshop has brought together legislative and executive bodies, librarians, lawyers, representatives of public organizations and antimonopoly committees who deal with information and legal resources concerning protection of consumer’s rights.
