Memorable dates of Russia: “I’ve built a symbol of immortality” exposition, celebrating Mikhail Lomonosov’s 300th birth anniversary, runs in Krasnoyarsk

November 21st 2011 Krasnoyarsk Krai Research Library is staging an exposition “I’ve built a symbol of immortality” which is dedicated to Mikhail Lomonosov’s 300th birth anniversary.

More than 300 books, periodicals and illustrative editions spanning the time from 18th century up to the present day from collections of the State Krasnoyarsk Krai Research Library will turn the spotlight on the life and work of a brilliant Russian scientist of encyclopedic knowledge, man of letters and artist, works of his contemporaries, teachers and colleagues. Over 50 rare editions dated between 18th-19th centuries will be brought by staff members of the National Library of Russia (St. Petersburg) specially for the exhibition.

Among 18th c. books – are Mikhail Lomonosov’s first publications of famous works: “Short Guide to Oratory” (1748), “Short Russian Chronicle” (1766), “Early Russian History from the Beginning of the Russian People to the Decease of Great Prince Yaroslav I” (1766) and others. Studies of the biography and heritage of Mikhail Lomonosov conducted by 19th c. scholars - A. A. Kunik, A. S. Budilovich, B. N. Menshutkin and others started an academic discipline known as “Lomonosov Studies”.

Visitors of the exhibition will have an opportunity to see authentic rare editions in showcases and besides read electronic copies using eReaders.
