
Memorable dates of Russia: “Name of Mikhail Lomonosov at the World Map” Exhibition in the World Ocean Museum of Kaliningrad
18 November 2011, on the eve of the 300th birthday anniversary of the Russian genius Mikhail Lomonosov the World Ocean Museum of Kaliningrad opened the exhibition “Lomonosov’s name of the world map”.
Discoveries made by M. V. Lomonosov have enriched many areas of knowledge, and his ideas have passed ahead of the science of that time. He researched and generalized the basic moments of the military and naval activities of Peter I, studied many issues of the navy, sea geography, meteorology and optics, expressed the idea about the dependence of war on the development of economy and science.
Scientific genius of M. V. Lomonosov showed in his deep knowledge of scientific achievements of his age, skills to foresee and define major areas of scientific progress, combination of theoretical researches with practical needs, desire to use scientific achievements in the development of his homeland.
Many geographical sites on land, in oceans and in space have been named after Mikhail Lomonosov.
