Russian language abroad: Russian Language Week underway in Germany

The Russian Language Week (Woche der russischen Sprache) is running November 14-18 2011 in Germany. Its program features exhibitions, presentations, lectures, competitions, performances which are underway in Berlin, Bonn, Magdeburg, Greifswald, Frankfurt (Oder) and other cities of the country.

During the Russian Language Week the Russian House of Science and Culture in Berlin will launch presentations of over 20 Russian and German publishing houses and projects intended to promote Russian language among the youth. In addition, the “Russian House” has staged a special exposition of publishing programs of Moscow City Government. Its visitors have a chance to familiarize themselves with different editions and buy those they like: educational and reference literature, encyclopedias and art albums, multimedia products.

A special program awaits German teachers of Russian language from universities, comprehensive schools, bilingual and Sunday schools. Lectures, roundtable discussions, sessions of the working groups, master classes, and discussions will touch upon changes in the Russian society, culture and Russian language, reviews of latest literature publications and films in Russia, introduction of modern educational materials and multimedia programs in teaching Russian as a foreign language.

Pupils will have a chance to learn about opportunities of youth exchange programs, take part in “Russian caskets” presentation and “Lomonosov’s Days in Berlin” contest. German students who study Russian language will join workshops with specialists from Russia, while future teachers will show off a methodological project intended for schoolchildren.

The Russian Language Week events are expected to attract over 200 experts in Russian language and literature from Germany and 800 schoolchildren and students from all 16 federal states of Germany.
