IT and Society: New terms and conditions of domain names registration in domains .RU and .РФ came into force

New terms and conditions of domain names registration in domains .RU and .РФ came into force on November 11 2011.

These changes are aimed to improve security of Internet in Russia.

The regulations cancel a number of limitations which first and foremost have to do with a new .РФ domain, but they also introduce a number of restrictions which deal with an old domain. In particular they cancel limitations on transfer of the administration rights to domains registered in .РФ and on registration in .РФ zone for non-residents of Russia.

A number of innovations will toughen rules of registration and use. Transfer of the domain name administration rights is not allowed in case of termination of the domain name registration validity period and in case the domain name coincides with the denomination included in the stop list. Application for domain name delegation shall be executed solely on condition the Registrar checked contact with the Administrator via the stored in the Registry telephone number with the SMS function. Registration of the domain name is subject to cancellation upon the end of the preferential extension period.

The new regulations have come into force a year after the launch of domain name registration in .РФ zone. As for today this Internet segment totals over 920 000 registered domain names, out of them over 67% are delegated.
