Internet and society: Google announced two artistic contest

Google Corp. announced the launch of a student photo contest and 3D modeling of buildings on the cities’ maps. It has been announced in the company’s official blog and the blog of developers of cartographic services respectively.

“Google Photography Prize” photo contest is held jointly with the London Saatchi Gallery in ten nominations. The contest welcomes students from all over the world including the states of the former USSR.  

In order to take part in the competition one should publish up to 8 photographs for any of the nominations in his account in Google+ before 1 February and fill out an application on the contest’s website. The photos of ten finalists will be displayed at the Saatchi Gallery. The authors of the winning works will go to London for the exhibition opening.

The company has also announced the “Google Model Your Town Competition” in the context of which users will create 3D models of buildings for Google Earth cartographic service. The competition will last until the end of February and everyone is welcome to participate.
