Museums of Russia: New museum to be set up in Kulikovo Field to mark 700th birth anniversary of Sergius of Radonezh
The construction of a new museum complex is already underway within the territory of the State Museum of Military History and Natural Reserve “Kulikovo Field” (Tula Region).
It is expected to open its doors in 2014 to coincide with celebrations of 700th birth anniversary of Venerable Sergius of Radonezh.
The new museum building along with an observation deck in Kulikovo Field will be built on a site of a former Mokhovoe village not far away from the Red Hill.
The church of Sergius of Radonezh, which used to be under the joint authority of the museum and Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius, is located within the territory of the museum-reserve. Literary works and historical documents made the core of the museum exposition, while the church conducted divine services.
In 2010 the church was transferred in charge of the Lavra, while the museum on the Red Hill ceased its existence.
