History of Russia: Conference on the historical and archaeological heritage of Kulikovo Field underway in Tula Region

A research conference “Historical and Archaeological Heritage of Kulikovo Field and Neighboring Territories. The City of the Middle Ages and Early Modern Period” is running in Tula Region November 9-12 2011.

Kulikovo Field, which is famous for the Battle with Mamai (the Battle of Kulikovo), is a unique historical territory and a nature reserve with rich natural and archaeological heritage. The conference is called to attract interest of the general public and historians to the process of Russian State foundation and promote exploration of Kulikovo field and southern borders of the Russian State among scholars.

The conference will launch the following sections: “Archaeology of the Upper Don River area and the south-east of Russia between 12th – 14th cc.” and “The City of Late Middle Ages. Archaeology. History”.

The conference represents the leading scientific and museum centers of Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus. It has brought together over 40 scholars from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Tula, Kaluga, Kursk, Bryansk, Kiev, Chernigov, Sevastopol, Kazan and Novosibirsk.

The collected articles of participants of the conference will be published after the conference.
