Russian culture abroad: “Icon of Mother of God in Russian Orthodox Church” exhibition launched in Spain

A new exhibition “Icon of Mother of God in Russian Orthodox Church” has opened in Santiago de Compostela, Spain.

The exposition includes works by contemporary icon painters: Alexander Sokolov, Svetlana Rzhanitsyna, Vyacheslav Simakov, Yelena Andryushina, Andrei Savelev, Irina Kolbneva etc.

On display are 95 icons of 55 iconographies of Mother of God, mainly icons considered to be wonder-working which made the calendar of the Russian Orthodox Church.

Each icon is accompanied by an explanatory text in Spanish, which tells about the provenance of the icon with the information where its original can be found, and its most famous copies.

The exhibition is a part of the program of the Cultural Exchange Year for Spain and Russia.
