28 December 2011

From December 27th 2011 to January 10th 2012 “New Manege” Moscow State Exhibition Hall is running an exhibition “Genius of Russian Music” which marks 140th birth anniversary of composer Alexander N. Skryabin.

This exhibit is a presentation of A. N. Skryabin’s Year in Russia. Its purpose is to popularize the life and works of Alexander Skryabin as a representative of the brightest period of our history – the Silver Age.

Three halls of “New Manege” Moscow State Exhibition Hall house three thematic sections.

In the exhibition’s first section visitors may see authentic exhibits from Glinka All-Russian Museum Association of Musical Culture (formerly known as Glinka State Central Museum of Musical Culture), learn about educational institutions which bear the name of the composer, and the name of his teacher V. I. Safonov, A. N. Skryabin and P. I. Jurgenson Foundations, “Music” publishing house which is presently releasing the composer’s complete collected works.

Exposition of the second hall showcases materials from museums and libraries which keep unique materials related to life of Alexander Skryabin and his contemporaries.

Here you can also see engravings “Moscow of Silver Age” from V. G. Belikov’s private collection – one of the most popular graphic collectors in Moscow; materials which belonged to L. L. Sabaneev (A. N. Skryabin’s friend) from the private archive of T. Yu. Maslovskaya, Professor of the Russian Gnesins Academy of Music.

The final hall puts on display experiments of contemporary artists who continue and develop A. N. Skryabin’s ideas. “Innerlichkeit” (“Sincerity, Secrecy”) video installation by Pavel Karmanov - a composer, member of the Union of Moscow Composers – continues Alexander Skryabin’s idea of arts fusion. Anatoly Vasilev has created an imitation of Skryabin’s color-light music “Prometheus”. Visitors of this hall will discover works by artists Viktor Chernovolenko, Natalia Bragina and Feodor Platov (who took Skryabin’s music lessons), works by students of Sergei Andriyaki Watercolors School and sculptural portraits of A. N. Skryabin by V. Vakhrameev.
