Exhibitions: Unique materials from the Theater and Music Museum collection displayed in St. Petersburg

“Flora and Fauna of the Russian stage” exhibition opens 24 December 2011 in the Theater and Music Museum, St. Petersburg.

The exhibition is based on the unique materials from the collection of the Theater and Music Museum, St. Petersburg. Looking at the exhibits representing all theatre genres, one can see the history of development of the Russian visual art.

Most of the unique exhibits from the Museum’s collections are displayed for the first time, including the album of sketches of costumes for the “Blue Bird” of Maurice Maeterlinck by the artists Panov and Vorobiyov created special for the theater exhibition in Rome in 1916.

On the whole, the exposition features over 100 exhibits among which are sketches of costumes, photographs, and legendary costumes from the former wardrobe of the Russian Imperial theaters for such ballets as “The Nutcracker” by Tchaikovsky, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” by Mendelssohn, “The Four Seasons” by Glazunov, staged at the Mariinsky Theatre.
