Presidential Library: New Arrivals

The Presidential Library has acquired digital materials provided by the National Library of the Republic of Buryatia to cast light on the history of development of its region.

A book by N. Kritl entitled The Future of Kyakhta Commerce (St. Petersburg, 1862) addresses trade relations between Russia and China, established by the treaty of 1727, which turned Kyakhta (today the city in Kyakhta District, Buryatia) into the hub of Russian-Chinese trade. Particular attention is turned to tea trade, which was the main trade article imported via Kyakhta.

A pamphlet of Buryat scientist, statesman, public figure and man of letters Bazar Baradievich Baradiyn On Improvement of Buryat-Mongolian Language Culture (Baku, 1929) turns the spotlight on Latinization of Mongolian written language and transition of local population to a new alphabet.

The works by a historian and ethnographer, public figure of Siberia - Nikolai Kuzmin - let you discover the historical and ethnographic, geographical, economic and political processes which took place in Buryatia in different historical periods: On the Time of Settlement of Buryat People around Lake Baikal (Irkutsk, 1925), Buryatia in Respect of its Geography and Economy (Verkhneudinsk, 1924), Basics of Capital Construction in Buryatia (Verkhneudinsk, 1926), The Year 1905 and Buryat People (Irkutsk, 1926), Buryat-Mongolian ASSR (Irkutsk, 1928), Essays on cattle-breeding in the Republic of Buryatia (Issue 1: Economy in Kizhinga District in 1922. Verkhneudinsk, 1924).

Political and economic collected works 15 years of Buryat-Mongolian ASSR (Ulan-Ude, 1938) highlights achievements of the Republic in the areas of public health, industry, agriculture, national and cultural development within the first 15 years of the autonomous republic’s existence.

Papers and materials of central and local authorities of Buryat-Mongolian ASSR in 1920s can be found in essays and reports of 1924-1925 (Buryat-Mongolian ASSR, 1926) and of 1925-1926 (Buryat-Mongolian ASSR, 1927), protocols and resolutions of Buryat-Mongolian Central Executive Committee of the 3rd convocation Second Session (September 6th-8th 1927) (Verkhneudinsk, 1927), Report on Activities of Verkhneudinsk City Council of Workers and Red Army Deputies of 6th Convocation : of 1928-1929. (Verkhneudinsk, 1930).
