Microsoft Corp. has announced its plans to automatically upgrade Windows customers to the latest version of Internet Explorer available for their PC. The company informs that the new system will start in January 2012 for customers in Australia and Brazil who have turned on automatic updating via Windows Update. The official announcement reads that when upgrading from one version of Internet Explorer to the next through Windows update the user’s home page, search provider and default browser will remain unchanged.

Ryan Gavin, General Manager of Microsoft Internet Explorer Business and Marketing believes that the innovation will protect users from modern cyber threats.

Users who are not willing to have their web browsers updated automatically can opt out.
