Museums of Russia: New building of the Polytechnic Museum to be constructed near to the Moscow State University
The new building of the Polytechnic Museum, stipulated by the concept of its development, will be constructed in the territory of the M. V. Lomonosov Moscow State University.
The Agreement on the design of the new museum’s building near to the MSU was concluded at the meeting of the Polytechnic Museum’s Trustee Council on December 13, 2011.
The concept of the scientific museum on the basis of the Polytechnic Museum, approved in April 2011 by the Russian Ministry of Culture, provides for the construction of the second building. It will be situated in the new territory of the MSU, near with the intellectual center – the MSU Fundamental library and “Shuvalovsky” education building.
According to Natalia Sergievskaya, the Polytechnic Museum Fund Director Deputy, the new building will include exhibition halls for temporary expositions, open repository, a part of the library, restoration workshops and workshops for making interactive exhibits, as well as the Science Art Gallery. This part of the museum devoted to the science and education, will focus on the professionals, while the exposition in the historical building on Lubyanka – on everyone.
This large-scale and ambitious project will be implemented in seven years. According to Natalia Sergievskaya, the reconstruction will be completed in 2016 and two more years will be needed to arrange the exposition.
