IT and Copyright: Live webcast of a roundtable discussion with a focus on copyright-related problems of information market

On December 13th 2011 at 11 a.m. “GARANT” Information agency launched a live webcast of a roundtable discussion “Urgent copyright-related problems of interaction between information market participants” which brought together librarians, publishers, state officials and all concerned.

Even though we are witnessing a rapid development of electronic resources unsolved remain the problems of open access to electronic documents collections, informatization of libraries and copyright management, promotion of technical and legal means for protection of electronic resources. At the same time it is crucial to maintain a balance between rights and interests of rightholders, users, and content providers, who offer access to intellectual property.

Participants of the roundtable discussion addressed urgent problems related to coordination and cooperation between rightholders and content providers in the area of intellectual property protection on Internet, cooperation between Russian libraries and authors, publishers and patrons. Participants also touched upon further ways to improve copyright legislation and other relevant issues.
