IT and Society: State of mobile industry in Russia assessed at “TechCrunch” Conference in Moscow

On December 5th 2011 Moscow ran the Second Russian Conference of the World Technological Internet Blog “TechCrunch”.

While giving a speech the Minister of Communications and Mass Media of Russia Igor Shchegolev presented his personal point of view on the state of mobile industry in Russia.

The Minister believes that the key feature of the Russian market is a strong competition between local market players. Competition in its turn has a positive effect on the quality and price of services, provided to users. “We are satisfied with the quality of communication services offered in Russia”, the Minister said. He recalled that according to international experts, Russia enters Top 10 countries with high development rate of broadband access. Wireless communication market in Russia possesses a rich potential for development and generates interest on the part foreign companies too. The mobile industry is also promoted by state initiatives – in particular, the launch of mobile version of govt services portal in the near future, which will give users an opportunity to receive government services electronically via mobile devices.
