2 December 2011

StatCounter - an analytics company - has released stats on popularity of web browsers. The stats show that this November Google Chrome overtook Mozilla Firefox as the world’s №2 browser (second only to Microsoft Internet Explorer). According to StatCounter, this November Google Chrome’s worldwide market share totaled 25.69%, 4.66% up compared to the past year. At the same time Firefox had a 25.23% share of the global market. Microsoft Internet Explorer dominates worldwide market share at 40.63%.

Another analytics company - NetApplications - which also provides data on browser market share, announces that Google Chrome is still №3, following Mozilla Firefox. According to NetApplications, though Chrome’s popularity trend is obvious, it will pass Firefox to the №2 spot only in February or March 2012.

StatCounter’s stats show that in the United States Microsoft Internet Explorer’s market share is 50.66% with a 0.42% rise year on year. Firefox retains second place on 20.09%, down from 26.75%. Chrome is up to 17.3% with a 6.41% rise. Safari’s market share has slightly changed and this year it amounts to 10.76%.

"We can look forward to a fascinating battle between Microsoft and Google as the pace of growth of Chrome suggests that it will become a real rival to Internet Explorer globally," commented Aodhan Cullen, CEO, StatCounter.
