Memorable dates of Russia: “Patriotic War of 1812: Looking through Centuries” exhibition in Vologda Region

In celebration of a memorable date – 200th anniversary of victory in the Patriotic War of 1812 – Totma Local Lore Museum (Vologda Region) staged an exhibition “Patriotic War of 1812: Looking through Centuries”. The show casts light on the contribution of Totma inhabitants to the victory over Napoleon’s army.

The exhibition unveils historical documents, commemorative medals, prints of generals of the Patriotic War of 1812. The spirit of the times is conveyed by the uniform of soldiers of 19th c., weapons and household items. In 1912 the centenary of the Patriotic War of 1812 was widely celebrated in Russia. Celebrations also took place in Totma: the church service of August 26th on Sadovaya Square, the meeting at the teachers’ seminary, which attracted honorary citizens and students of the town’s educational institutions. In the memory of war of 1812 Totma Zemstvo established two grants for seminary students: Alexander and Kutuzov grants. The exposition features photographs of the church service and also commemorative medals.

What is more, the exhibition showcases books of 19th century and modern albums devoted to the memorable date.
