Society and Church: Orthodox icons and relics on display in Chelyabinsk

A major Orthodox icons and relics display “To the Glory of God!” is running January 24th – 29th 2012 in Chelyabinsk.

The exposition has brought together over 150 cathedrals, monasteries, churches, workshops and publishing houses from different corners of Russia: Moscow, Leningrad, Vladimir, Nizhny Novgorod, Lipetsk, Amur, Tver, Ryazan, Pskov, Kurgan, Sverdlovsk and other regions. Never before has the exhibition attracted guests from Palestine, Germany, the United States, Greece, Israel, Montenegro, Moldova, Ukraine and Belarus.

Church representatives have brought sacred objects and relics, including “Vsetsaritsa”, “Trojeručica”, Mother of God of Vladimir Icon (Theotokos of Vladimir), relics of Matrona of Moscow, Saint Nicholas (also known as Nicholas the Wonderworker), Seraphim of Sarov and other holy people.

Visitors will have a chance to see unique exhibits of the Russian Orthodox Church, icons, church utensils and other things, which will attract interest not just on the part of religious people, but also those who is interested in Orthodoxy as a religion.

The exhibit will also feature events called to address urgent moral and social issues.
