
Regions of Russia: Year of Culture and National Glory kicks off in Ulyanovsk
Following the order of the Governor of Ulyanovsk Region - Sergei Morozov - the Year of Culture and National Glory is kicking off in Ulyanovsk on January 19th 2012, on the day of 69th foundation anniversary of Ulyanovsk Region.
“This year is rich in momentous dates and anniversaries – 200th anniversary of writer Ivan Goncharov, bicentenary of victory in the Patriotic War of 1812 and 1150th anniversary of Russian Statehood. In this view the region will host a series of large-scale projects of the national and international significance”, said the Minister of Art and Cultural Policy of Ulyanovsk Region – Gennady Zhuravlev.
The opening of the Year of Culture is marked with a presentation of a press-center and a call-center on cultural issues, as well as a press conference – videoconference, which brought together partners of Ulyanovsk projects from the Ministry of Culture of Russia, the All-Russia State Library for Foreign Literature, the Russian Literature Institute (Pushkin House), as well as descendents of writer Ivan Goncharov who live in France.
What is more, in celebration of the Region Day – January 19th - 26th the region will hold over a hundred events: exhibitions, concerts, sport competitions, award ceremonies of state and regional prizes to best citizens of the region, presentation of the first Mordovian national holiday “Shumbrat”.
