16 January 2012

On January 16th 2012 V. A. Kaverin Regional Library for Children and Young Adults in Pskov rolled out “The Land of Brothers Grimm” program, which is running as a part of the Cultural Exchange Year for Russia and Germany.

The whole block of events is devoted to German fairy tales’ authors and philologists Brothers Grimm. The fact is that year 2012 will see 200th anniversary of the first publication of the first volume of fairy tales collected in German lands and processed by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm in 1812 entitled “Children’s and Household Tales” (German: Kinder- und Hausmärchen).

Brothers Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm were founding fathers of national and book culture, that’s why all key events are centered around them. The first exhibition “The Tale about Fairy Tales’ Authors” – which represents a film-fantasy about Brothers Grimm - kicked off on January 16th.

Other events of the Year include: virtual tours across real and magic Germany, foundation of fairy tales museum, familiarization with the national language and art, competitions and quizzes, discussion on the University of Marburg and “Night in the Library” that will run on May 15th -  the Family Reading Day.
