IT and Society: Microsoft outstrips Yahoo in the U.S. search engine rankings, second only to Google

According to a new comScore’s study released on January 12th 2012, in December 2011 Microsoft Corp. managed to outstrip Yahoo and become the second most popular search engine in the United States. As for now, Microsoft-owned search engine Bing is second only to Google. More than 18.2 billion explicit core searches were conducted in December. Google Sites ranked first with 12 billion search queries what is equivalent to 65.9% explicit core search share.

The comScore’s report also reads that last December Bing processed 2.75 billion search queries (15.1%), while Yahoo is the third with 2.65 billion search queries (14.5%).
