Mozilla Firefox has announced that it is going to deliver a new special version of its Firefox browser that will receive less frequent updates than traditional ones.

Last year Mozilla developers decided to launch an Extended Support Release (ESR) of Firefox after they had received negative feedback from many users on the part of Firefox frequent release cycle. As a part of this cycle new versions of Firefox browser are released once in every six weeks.

The ESR version is for use by enterprises, public institutions, universities and other organizations which have to adapt add-ons for this browser each time there is a new Firefox update.

“Releases of the ESR will occur once a year, providing these organizations with a version of Firefox that receives security updates but does not make changes to the Web or Firefox Add-ons platform”, the Mozilla Blog reads.
