Memory of Russia: Museum of the War of 1812 opened in Kaluga

February 22, 2012 in the Memorial House of Decembrist G. S. Baten'kov (Kaluga), a member of the foreign campaigns of 1813-1814, opened the Museum of the War of 1812, revealing to the visitors a set of original objects dating to the period of 1812.

This is the banner of the Azov Musketeer Regiment of 1803, used by the regiment during the war of 1812 and the campaigns of 1813 and 1814; the gonfalons of Kaluga militia, which accompanied it in the struggle with the enemy in 1812 and 1813; portraits of Kaluga residents, participants and contemporaries of the Patriotic War; Russian, French, German, English, Spanish and American prints, covering the events of the Napoleonic Wars (including original works by F. Goya and V. V. Vereshchagin), weapons and defensive armament, including a memorial sword which belonged to a French prisoner, Count P.-L. de Bovolier.

The unique collection displayed at the Museum of the War of 1812 allows visitors to learn about the events of the Patriotic War, the fate of individuals and the role played by the Kaluga province in the victory over Napoleon's army in the period 1812 through original objects.
