
Museums of Russia: The 1812 War Museum to open in Moscow in September
In the period from 2 to 7 September, 2012, the 1812 War Museum will open in Moscow. Its creation will be the main event of 2012 announced the Year of History, according to Aleksey Levykin, the State Historical Museum Director.
The 1812 War Museum will be housed in the courtyard of the Museum of Lenin. It will be a two-level pavilion with a transparent roof and the area of 1200 square meters.
According to A. Levykin, the foundation of the pavilion has already taken its place between the building of the former Town Hall, better known as the Lenin Museum, and the Mint.
"It is where the 1812 War Museum will open from 2 to 7 September, 2012. The preparative works for the opening of the first exposition will begin in May. We are very seriously preparing for this event," he said.
The core of the new museum’s exposition will be the items that have been accumulated in the collections of the Museum of History after an extensive exhibition, held in the capital to mark the centenary of the Patriotic War of 1812. In addition, the museum will promote the display of private collections.
