World culture: “Rafael’s Madonna of Nizhny Tagil” Exhibition in Chelyabinsk

17 February 2012

February 14, 2012 in the Hall of Arts of the South Ural State University (Chelyabinsk), was held the opening of the "Raphael's Madonna of Nizhny Tagil" exhibition. This mobile project features masterpieces of Italian Renaissance painting.

The painting "The Holy Family" or "Madonna del Popolo" is exhibited in Chelyabinsk. Its author is one of the titans of the Renaissance, Raphael Santi of Urbino. The picture painted in 1509, was brought to Nizhny Tagil as part of a collection of paintings and sculptures of Nikolai Demidov, who spent most of his life in Italy. The exhibition also features a copy of "Maddona del Granduka" by Raphael, made by the French artist Emile Rouillon, and "Madonna with Child and John the Baptist" by the Italian artist Giulio Cesare Procaccini. Both of these works, most likely, also come from Demidov’s collection.
