Regions of Russia: “Russia on the world map: historical dynamics of territory transformation” exhibit in Omsk

Under the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation of January 9th 2012 “On holding the Year of Russian History in the Russian Federation”, A. S. Pushkin State Regional Research Library of Omsk is running an exhibition “Russia on the world map: historical dynamics of territory transformation” which will be open till February 29th. The exhibition celebrates 190th foundation anniversary of the West Siberian Governorate (Governorship) General.

The decision to set up governorate general was taken on January 26th 1822 on the initiative of Mikhail Speransky, who was the one to propose to divide the Siberian Governorate General into its western and eastern parts. This decision was formalized on July 22nd 1822.

The exposition showcases pre-revolutionary and modern editions which address:

- the history of changing borders of the Russian State from Kievan Rus’ to the Russian Federation as a result of the foreign policy;

- the administrative and territorial division of Siberia and Omsk;

- travelers and pioneers who contributed to joining new lands to the Russian State.

The exhibition also gives an opportunity to discover unique cartographic materials.
