Russian News and Information Agency RIA Novosti has launched a new educational project known as Have Fun with Russian on its English language website, which is designed for English speakers who want to study Russian language in an amusing way.

According to the project’s author, linguist, teacher and translator - Zlata Karlova, the project has brought together best foreign language teaching methods. First and foremost, it is intended for the English-speaking audience, but may also generate interest on the part of Russian language speakers, and those who take an interest in cross-cultural relations and communications, as well as those who do not want to use worn-out clichés but instead would like to try to describe their thoughts and feelings expressively.

This educational portal will unite educational materials based on information resources of RIA Novosti Agency. The most interesting materials, news, photos, videos and even information graphics, prepared by RIA Novosti staff, are expected to become the part of the educational process.

The multimedia nature of this project makes a game of learning. Quizzes, images, dialogues, audiovisual games, Russian rock and news supported with audio files – all this makes learning Russian grammar, vocabulary and phonetics easy.

The project was intended to meet the needs of people at a range of levels – from beginners to those with advanced language skills.

The “Have Fun with Russian” project includes the themed section: “Business in Russia”. This is a resource for all those who want to learn business vocabulary and the idiosyncrasies of the Russian economy.

There are also several sections which present basic grammar rules in a clear and direct way. Learners can practice pronunciation and fixed expressions by listening to audio clips that make it easier to remember texts and visual content. “How to say it in Russian” podcasts help people refine their spoken Russian. “Travel in Russia” is another key section of this project. People interested in learning Russian can read about the history and beauty of Russian cities and take virtual tours round many outstanding places.
