Peoples of Russia: “Jewelry of Ancient and Medieval Mordvins” exhibit devoted to 1000-year Unity of the Mordovian people with peoples of Russia underway in Penza

Penza State Local Lore Museum has opened “Jewelry of Ancient and Medieval Morvins of 3rd – 18th cc” exhibition devoted to 1000-year Unity of the Mordovian people with peoples of the Russian State.

The exhibit presents the material and spiritual culture of ancient Mordvins, as the jewelry doesn’t only define the aesthetic tastes and ideals, but is also the means of expression of the world view and mythological ideas.

The museum keeps some 7 000 items of Mordvin culture beginning from the 3rd century. They were discovered by the whole generation of archaeologists within a century. The creator of the exhibition - Professor Vladimir Stavitsky has selected the tenth part of treasures - necklaces, bracelets, headgear decorations to go on display.

The exhibition which is timed to 1000-year Unity of the Mordovian peoples with peoples of the Russian State presents the culture of one of the main ethnic groups of the state, and thus highlights the importance of preservation of unique social-cultural landscape in Russia.
