A videoconference based on three-dimensional glasses-free technology, developed by Tomsk innovation company “Triaxes Vision”, which connected Tomsk and London, kicked off on March 22 2012. Representatives of two universities – Tomsk Polytechnic University and Ravensbourne in Great Britain, which specializes in innovative digital media and design, had a chance to talk to each other.

The conference brought together students, university lecturers, 3D broadcasting specialists, TV-studio staff members, journalists from two countries. During an hour the participants discussed the opportunities of the new technology and its possible benefits to education, business and communications.

“This is an innovative “real time” 3D glasses-free system, explained Alexei Polyakov, “Triaxes Vision” Director. – Video streams are received by a special server, their data is compressed in a standard traffic stream, used for webcasts, and is received by our digital TV device. The signal with data is read by a processor and then goes to a special display with a micro-lens layer, which creates three-dimensional effect”, said the company’s head.

“As far as I know, today’s “three-dimensional” glasses-free TV conference was the first in the history of world telecommunications”, Alexei Polyakov explained.
